What’s in the bags? For training tonight members had to feel, but not look at, pieces of firefighting equipment that are usually stored on our Tanker 1. By guessing it’s name, function and storage location they won points with the winner getting their “Cadbury “ prize!
Knowing what equipment does and where to quickly find it is a vital skill for our Firefighters. We need to work safely, efficiently and professionally as a team to provide the service our community deserves. This is why we train and why we practice. Always happy to help out the neighbors . A timely reminder it is still very dry and it doesn’t take much for a fire to start.Thank you to Elphinstone and Malmsbury Brigades for your assistance this evening. A special thank you also to Colin Fletcher who supported us with his water carting truck and supplied 8000 litres of water to refill our tankers after the initial attack to pull up the spread of the fire. To have that assistance on the fire ground without having to leave to get water made the job a lot quicker and easier.
This is a timely reminder that dry long grass and vehicles do not mix and exhaust systems will start a fire which can quickly spread. A windy day, and the result could have been worse. We estimate approx 3 acres burnt but no significant damage to infrastructure.
Stay safe everyone and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Thank you Brian Wilson for the photos.
